Limited Metallic Gold Vinyl LP In Gatefold Jacket

This pressing puts The Lost Album on metallic gold vinyl in a gatefold jacket, in a run of 1,000 copies. It was issued on January 26, 2024, under catalog number LP-SBR-7037C, with Tollie Records on the disc label. The run-out groove on side one is etched "This One's For Pat," a tribute to singer and guitarist Pat DiNizio, who died in December 2017. Greg Calbi mastered the album.

The Smithereens recorded these twelve songs at Crystal Sound Recording in New York in 1993, between the end of their Capitol contract and the start of their deal with RCA, and produced the sessions themselves. Capitol dropped the band that year; about half of the songs were re-recorded for A Date with The Smithereens in 1994, and the rest stayed in the archive. The original multitrack masters were later lost in a fire, so the album is assembled from rough mixes on digital audio tape. Bassist Mike Mesaros, who has said his own copy sat in a shoebox with other cassettes, wrote in the liner notes that it "remains only 80 percent finished and rough mixed."

The lineup is DiNizio on vocals and guitar, Jim Babjak on guitar, Mesaros on bass and Dennis Diken on drums, with Larry Buxbaum and Chuck Cavanaugh engineering. Sunset Blvd Records first released the album on CD on September 23, 2022, preceded by "Out of This World," the track above, as a single on September 13. DiNizio later re-recorded "A World Apart" and "Everyday World" for his 1997 solo album Songs and Sounds. Jim Allen of Rock and Roll Globe wrote that the record "captures the Smithereens in transition but it feels like it fits right into their chronology."
