Remastered 2LP on 140g Black Vinyl

New West Records' 2018 reissue of the Glands' self-titled second album spreads a remastered nineteen-track program across two 140-gram black LPs, catalog number NW5225. The label presents it as the band's definitive sequence: the fourteen songs of the original release run through Side C, and Side D holds the five rarer songs added for this edition, closing on "Doug's Hall Rag."

The record first appeared on August 1, 2000, on Capricorn Records, which shut down within months of its release; Phil Walden's next label, Velocette, issued it again in 2001. The band produced most of it themselves, and frontman Ross Shapiro double-tracked his own voice to build the harmonies. "I Can See My House From Here" originally carried a sample of the Four Seasons' "December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night)," taken out when the band could not get it cleared.

Spin rated the album 9 out of 10 and Pitchfork 8.7, and both the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the Orange County Register counted it among the best albums of 2000. Revisiting it in 2018, Pitchfork called it "a fractured pop dynamo." The opener, "Livin' Was Easy," turned up in comedian David Cross's DVD Let America Laugh.

The Glands came out of Athens, Georgia, with Shapiro writing and singing the songs. He died in March 2016, at 53. New West released the band's third and final album, Double Coda, in November 2018, made up of material recorded between 1996 and 2003.
