25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition 2LP, Remastered

Polyvinyl Records issued this 25th anniversary deluxe edition of The Get Up Kids' second album as a double LP. Joe LaPorta at Sterling Sound remastered the original twelve tracks. The first record carries the album in its original running order. The second holds twelve rare or previously unreleased demos, including the original four-track acoustic recordings by singer and songwriter Matt Pryor.

The release notes say the demos keep lyrics that changed before the album was finished, as in the opener "Holiday," along with ideas the band later dropped. Pryor points to a twangy guitar line in "Valentine" that Jim Suptic cut.

The two discs come in an embossed gatefold jacket finished in silver foil. A large-format, 28-page full-color booklet of handwritten lyrics, photos and other ephemera from the era is included. Polyvinyl's general pressing of this edition is on Silver Nugget vinyl. Limited colorways sold through individual stores, among them a purple, pink and blonde striped run of 1,500, carry the same barcode.

Something to Write Home About first came out on September 28, 1999, through Vagrant Records and the band's own Heroes & Villains imprint. It was recorded over six weeks in June and July 1999 at Mad Hatter Studios in Silver Lake, Los Angeles, with Chad Blinman and Alex Brahl co-producing alongside the band. Keyboardist James Dewees, who joined after Four Minute Mile, plays on it. The album sold more than 100,000 copies and reached number 31 on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart. To mark this reissue, the band put out the first-ever music video for "Holiday," shown above.
