Blue Vinyl LP, Edsel Records UK Reissue

This is Edsel Records' blue vinyl LP of We Are Paintermen, catalog number DEMREC 286, issued in the UK under license from Hush Productions and packed with a photo inner sleeve. The same barcode and blue disc were first issued in 2018 inside Creation Theory, an Amazon-exclusive box of four colored LPs limited to 500 copies; this release offers the blue LP on its own. The record carries the album's mix of stereo and mono recordings.

We Are Paintermen was the only album the Creation issued during their original run. Hit-Ton released it in West Germany and Sonet in Denmark in June 1967, and it was never issued in the United Kingdom at the time. It gathers nearly everything the band had recorded, from the 1966 debut single "Making Time" to "If I Stay Too Long", and it spans a change of singer: Kenny Pickett fronts the earlier recordings, former bassist Bob Garner the later ones.

Shel Talmy, producer of The Who, signed the band to a production deal, and Demon's notes point out that "Making Time" has Eddie Phillips playing his guitar with a violin bow, two years before Jimmy Page did the same. "Making Time" reached No. 49 on the UK singles chart. "Painter Man" climbed to No. 36 in the UK and No. 8 in West Germany, and Boney M took their cover of it to No. 10 in the UK in 1979. Nicky Hopkins plays piano across most of the album. It remained the group's only album until Power Surge in 1996.
