Mono Vinyl LP With Digital Download Card

Move Upstairs is Daptone Records catalog DAP-045, cut in mono and issued on May 19, 2017 as volume six of the label's Gospel Series. This is the standard LP edition, packaged with a card for an MP3 download; a separate white vinyl run of 200 copies was pressed alongside it. The runouts are etched DAP 045 A and DAP 045 B.

The Como Mamas are Della Daniels, Ester Mae Wilbourn and Angelia Taylor, a gospel trio from Como, Mississippi. They first appeared on record on Daptone's 2008 compilation Como Now, and their first album of their own, Get an Understanding, was sung entirely a cappella. In December 2015 they traveled to New York for the Daptone Super Soul Revue's three nights at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, and the label booked studio time for a few days after the shows.

That session, at Daptone's House of Soul in Brooklyn, put a band behind them. The Glorifiers Band is Homer Steinweiss on drums, Thomas Brenneck on guitar, Jimmy Hill on organ and piano, and Bosco Mann on bass, the name Daptone co-founder Gabriel Roth works under as a player and producer. Mann produced the album; Roth, Simón Guzmán and Wayne Gordon recorded it, Roth and Guzmán mixed it at Penrose Recorders, and J.J. Golden mastered it. Daptone's own notes have Angelia Taylor singing lead on the title track.

The songs pair traditional material arranged by the trio, including "Out of the Wilderness," "99 and a Half Won't Do" and "I Know I've Been Changed," with gospel compositions by Frank E. Ray Jr. (the title track), Luther Barnes ("Count Your Blessings"), Dorothy Love ("He's Calling Me") and Lula Collins ("Almighty God Mighty God"). The record was made in cooperation with the Music Maker Relief Foundation. Jacob Blickenstaff took the cover photograph and Ann Coombs designed the sleeve.
