Orange & Blue Splatter Vinyl

Golden Grass on a single LP pressed in orange and blue splatter vinyl, issued in the US by Swamp Jam Records on September 12, 2025. The album's ten songs, about 34 minutes in all, run five to a side.

The Brothers Comatose are a San Francisco string band built around brothers Ben Morrison (guitar, vocals) and Alex Morrison (banjo, vocals), with Addie Levy on mandolin, Philip Brezina on violin and Steve Height on upright bass. Ben Morrison told Americana-UK that the title song is about the current wave of California string bands that start from traditional bluegrass and fold in folk, rock and jam elements, a line he traces through AJ Lee & Blue Summit, Molly Tuttle and, further back, Old & In the Way.

The record was made in two stretches with two producers, Greg Holden and Tim Bluhm. Mandolin player Greg Fleischut left the band partway through the sessions; Levy joined and recorded the second half, and Morrison told The Bluegrass Situation that four mandolin players appear across the album.

Guests fill out several tracks. Lindsay Lou sings the duet on "Home Again," which the band wrote after friends lost their home to a fire in the Santa Cruz mountains. Ronnie McCoury plays mandolin and sings on "The IPA Song," first released as a single in October 2023; the band has said it began as a joke about venues stocking their green room with IPAs they would never drink. Americana Highways credits Minna Choi on organ and Rhodes for "Huckleberry Wine," Michelle Kwon on cello for "Runnin' On Back" and Travis McClintic on the whistle solo in "Hills of San Francisco."
