20th Anniversary Edition, White, Black & Gold Vinyl 2LP

Light in the Attic marks twenty years of Passover, the debut full-length from Austin psychedelic rock band The Black Angels, with this limited double-LP edition. One disc is clear vinyl splattered with black and gold; the other is a silver-and-black merge. Both sit in black paper poly-lined inner sleeves inside a silver and gold foil gatefold jacket, and an OBI strip wraps the set.

Each copy also carries one of four 7-inch flexi discs, inserted at random, and every flexi holds a single live track the band recorded at KEXP in Seattle in 2006. Live takes of "Empire" and "Young Men Dead" are among the four.

The gatefold and the disc labels number the ten songs straight through from 1 to 10. "Call to Arms" fills side D by itself; the label lists it at 18:06.

Most of Passover was recorded and mixed at Cacophony Recording Studio, with "Black Grease" and "Manipulation" cut at Wire Recording and Shh! Recording. The liner notes quote Edvard Munch: "Illness, insanity, and death are the black angels that kept watch over my cradle." The band took its name from the Velvet Underground's "The Black Angel's Death Song." "The First Vietnamese War" came out as a single in 2006 and "Better Off Alone" followed in 2007. "Young Men Dead" later turned up on the soundtracks of the 2011 snowboard film The Art of Flight and the 2020 game The Last of Us Part II.
