Japanese Pressing, Cut at Abbey Road Studios, Obi Strip

Universal Music Japan issued this limited LP of Pet Sounds on August 26, 2026, catalog number UIJY-75396. It was pressed in Japan with the vinyl cut at Abbey Road Studios, and it comes with an obi strip that reproduces the design of the album's first Japanese pressing. Liner notes by Junichi Yamada, the lyrics and Goro Nakagawa's Japanese translations are included.

The record is a stereo pressing that keeps the original running order, seven songs on side A and six on side B, opening with "Wouldn't It Be Nice," the video above. It belongs to the second group of Universal Music Japan's series of classic international rock albums pressed in Japan, issued the same day as The Velvet Underground & Nico and T. Rex's Electric Warrior.

Capitol Records first released Pet Sounds on May 16, 1966. Brian Wilson produced and arranged it and wrote most of the songs with lyricist Tony Asher. It was recorded largely between January and April 1966, and it was the first Beach Boys album on which studio musicians such as the Wrecking Crew largely replaced the band on their instruments. "Caroline, No" came out first, as Wilson's solo debut single, followed by "Sloop John B" and "Wouldn't It Be Nice."

The album peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard Top LPs chart and at No. 2 in the UK, where it stayed in the top ten for six months. In May 2026, approaching its 60th anniversary, it was certified double platinum in the United States.
