25th Anniversary Blue Vinyl LP

Birthday Cake Records' 25th-anniversary edition returns Blue Horse to vinyl on a single blue LP, catalog number BDAY005LP, cut from newly prepared 2026 vinyl masters. The label describes it as a limited edition carrying archival photos and words from the group. It is the album's first time in print on vinyl in 15 years, since Nettwerk's tenth-anniversary 2LP of 2011.

Blue Horse was The Be Good Tanyas' debut. Frazey Ford, Trish Klein and Samantha Parton recorded it in Vancouver with producer Garth Futcher. It was first issued independently in Canada in 2000, and Nettwerk released it in 2001. Birthday Cake's notes credit CBC airplay with carrying it from an independent release to an international audience.

The songs split between the band's own writing and older material. Ford wrote "Broken Telephone," "Momsong" and "Up Against The Wall"; Parton wrote "Dogsong AKA Sleep Dog Lullaby" and "Don't You Fall," and co-wrote "The Littlest Birds" with Jolie Holland, who also arranged the traditional "The Lakes Of Pontchartrain." "Rain And Snow" and "The Coo Coo Bird" are traditional, "Oh! Susanna" is Stephen Foster's, and "Light Enough To Travel" was written by Geoff Berner. "The Littlest Birds" was later used in Showtime's Weeds.

According to the label's notes, the album spent 83 weeks on the Official UK Country Artists Albums Chart, peaking at No. 3, and placed in Q Magazine's top 50 albums of its year. The same notes list a Glastonbury Acoustic Stage set and an appearance on Later... with Jools Holland. The Independent called it "one of the most beguiling debuts to be heard this year."
