Cyanide Blue With Black Splatter Vinyl LP

Nuclear Blast reissued The New Order on April 26, 2024 on cyanide blue vinyl with black splatter, catalog number NBR 7114. The Megaforce logo of the original release still appears on the disc labels and the back cover.

It was Testament's second album, recorded in January and February 1988 at Pyramid Sound Studios in Ithaca, New York, where they had made The Legacy, with Alex Perialas producing and engineering. Atlantic and Megaforce released it on May 10, 1988. Much of it was written on acoustic guitar in the back of the tour bus during the first album's tours. Alex Skolnick has said the finished album came in under the 40 minutes the band's contract required, so they added the Aerosmith cover "Nobody's Fault" and the two short instrumentals, "Hypnosis" and "Musical Death (A Dirge)," and stretched a couple of sections.

Chuck Billy sang, Skolnick played lead guitar, Eric Peterson rhythm guitar, Greg Christian bass and Louie Clemente drums. The album was Testament's first on the Billboard 200, peaking at No. 136, and had sold more than 250,000 copies in the US by 1990. "Trial by Fire" was the single, with the video above, and "Into the Pit," "The New Order" and "Disciples of the Watch" have each been played live more than 600 times. Decibel inducted the album into its Hall of Fame in 2018.
