Limited Deluxe Edition Blue Marble 2LP With Alternative Artwork

Mercury's deluxe double-LP edition of The Seeds of Love is pressed on special-effect blue marble vinyl in a limited run and comes in a single-pocket sleeve with alternative cover art. The first record carries the original eight-song album. The second adds rare versions and demos, several of them on vinyl for the first time according to the label: side three gathers five tracks from "Tears Roll Down" to "Johnny Panic and the Bible of Dreams," and side four holds demos of "Rhythm of Life," "Advice for the Young at Heart," "Swords and Knives" and "Famous Last Words," plus an instrumental demo of "Sowing the Seeds of Love."

The band's third studio album took nearly three years. Sessions began in late 1986 with producers Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley, whose recordings were set aside; Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith resumed in early 1988 with co-producer Dave Bascombe at Real World in Box, Wiltshire, and the Townhouse in London, and finished the mix at Mayfair Studios in July 1989. Oleta Adams sings and plays keyboards on three tracks, and the players include Pino Palladino on bass, Manu Katché, Simon Phillips and Phil Collins on drums, and Jon Hassell on trumpet.

The album was released on September 25, 1989. It entered the UK chart at No. 1 and was certified platinum by the BPI within three weeks, reached No. 8 on the Billboard 200 and went platinum in the US, and went double platinum in Canada. "Sowing the Seeds of Love" reached No. 5 in the UK, No. 2 in the US and No. 1 in Canada, and "Woman in Chains" and "Advice for the Young at Heart" followed as singles.
