4LP Gatefold Vinyl With DVD And Poster

This is the four-LP edition of Newly Sentient Being, issued by Young God Records under catalog number YG69. The eight sides come in a gatefold jacket together with a DVD of the full Berlin performance, a printed insert of band photographs and an 18 x 24 inch poster. Michael Gira drew the artwork and directed the design, with layout by Phil Puleo.

The album documents the concert of November 28, 2025 at Festsaal Kreuzberg in Berlin, which Young God describes as the final concert of the band's "Big Sound" era, the incarnation of Swans that Gira reconvened in 2010. The label puts the running time at more than two and a half hours across five pieces, and notes that the set includes new material not recorded anywhere else. "The Merge" first appeared on the 2025 studio album Birthing, and "Paradise Is Mine" on 2023's The Beggar.

The lineup is Gira on guitar and voice, Norman Westberg on guitar, Kristof Hahn and Dana Schechter on lap steel, Christopher Pravdica on bass and taishogoto, Phil Puleo on drums and dulcimer, and Larry Mullins on Mellotron, keyboards, synthesizer and drums. The credits list all of the music as arranged and improvised by the seven players. Hieronymus Melchers recorded the concert, Ingo Krauss mixed it at Candy Bomber Studio, and Doug Henderson mastered it at micro-moose in Berlin. Gira produced.

In his note for the release, Gira writes: "Now this phase is finished. There's nowhere else to take it." He adds that he is moving Swans "into something with a decidedly more humble and intimate musical palette." The trailer for the DVD was directed by Marco Porsia and Peter Harton.
