RSD Black Friday 2023 Clear Vinyl LP With OBI Strip

This is the RSD Black Friday 2023 edition of The Place I Love, issued in the US by Dark Horse Records on November 24, 2023 as an "RSD First" release limited to 1,000 copies. The remastered album is pressed on transparent clear vinyl and housed in a reproduction of the original gatefold artwork, with an OBI strip. The sleeve carries catalog number DH0021; the sticker on the shrink-wrap, which bears the RSD Black Friday, Vinyl Voice Editions and Dark Horse Records logos, lists DH0021V. Dark Horse announced it as the album's first appearance on vinyl since 1974.

Splinter were the duo of Bill Elliott and Bobby Purvis, and George Harrison made them one of the first signings to his new Dark Horse label. The Place I Love, released on September 20, 1974, was the label's first album. Harrison produced it with Phil McDonald engineering, and much of it was recorded at FPSHOT, Harrison's studio at his Friar Park home, over roughly seventeen months beginning in mid-1973. Harrison plays guitars, dobro, mandolin and bass across the record, with some of his parts credited to the pseudonym P. Roducer.

The supporting players include Gary Wright and Billy Preston on keyboards, Klaus Voormann and Willie Weeks on bass, and Jim Keltner on drums. Alvin Lee adds guitar to "Gravy Train" and "Haven't Got Time," Mel Collins arranged the horns, and Graham Maitland plays accordion on "Costafine Town." That single reached No. 17 in the UK and No. 77 on the Billboard Hot 100, and the album peaked at No. 81 on the Billboard Top LPs & Tape chart. Reviewing it for Phonograph Record, Greg Shaw wrote that "Elliott and Purvis are faultless singers and as songwriters they have great potential."
