Double Vinyl LP Reissue

This is the UK vinyl edition of Splinter on Clean Up Records, catalog number CUP040DMM, issued through One Little Independent. The album is spread across two LPs, three songs to a side, and restores "Empathy" to its place as track six. The DMM suffix on the catalog number marks a Direct Metal Mastering cut, and One Little Independent's solicitation describes a half-speed master taken from the original tapes, pressed at 200 grams and housed in a numbered picture sleeve inside a PVC dust jacket.

Splinter is Sneaker Pimps' second studio album, released in October 1999 on Clean Up and Virgin. It was the first record with founding member and principal songwriter Chris Corner on lead vocals, after the departure of singer Kelli Ali. The band produced it themselves as Line of Flight, recording at their Line of Flight studio in London; Mark "Spike" Stent mixed it at Olympic Studios and Howie Weinberg mastered it. The album was not released in the United States at the time. "Half Life" and "Flowers And Silence" both draw on 1969 Scott Walker recordings, and "Cute Sushi Lunches" samples David Sylvian and Vangelis.

Corner, Liam Howe and Ian Pickering wrote the songs. Corner plays guitar and keyboards alongside his vocals, with Howe on keyboards, synths and programming, Joe Wilson on guitars and bass, and David Westlake on drums. "Low Five" reached No. 39 on the UK Singles Chart in August 1999 and "Ten To Twenty" reached No. 56 that October; the album peaked at No. 80 on the UK Albums Chart. NME's review called the record "as compelling as it is claustrophobic" and said Corner's lyrics carried "the same bleak power as OK Computer."
