Black Vinyl LP

This is the standard black vinyl LP of Hempispheres, Third Man Records catalog number TMR1080, with the album's five tracks split across two sides: three on the first, and the 11-minute "Arrival of the Industry Ships" with "Whole Wheat Mountain Well Baked" on the second. Third Man released the album digitally on September 3, 2026, ahead of the physical formats.

Hempispheres is Sleep's first album since The Sciences in 2018 and the first without guitarist Matt Pike. Founding bassist and songwriter Al Cisneros is joined by Dale Crover of the Melvins and Redd Kross on drums and Bubba Dupree of the Columbia, Maryland band Void on guitar. Cisneros asked Crover to help finish his demos when the Melvins passed through town on tour. Dupree came recommended, and a planned one-off recording for a flexi disc and comic book project became full membership.

The album was recorded at the Melvins' studio with their longtime engineer Toshi Kasai, built from a handful of ideas worked out over a few sessions. Third Man's notes record that Crover saw Sleep play San Francisco in the early 1990s, and that the early band had been changed by the Melvins' 1988 Gluey Porch Treatments shows. Cisneros has called Crover's drumming "otherworldly, life changing" and described the first session with Dupree as "blue sunglasses era Iommi." Dupree has said he chose to play in his own voice rather than imitate Pike, and that "Sleep's soul is still totally intact." "Have Spacesuit Will Travel" was issued as the lead single in June 2026, with "The Morrisist" and "Arrival of the Industry Ships" following before the album.
