This is RareNoise Records' vinyl edition of Tan Man's Hat, catalog number RNR106LP: a single 180-gram LP pressed on lime green vinyl and housed in a gatefold jacket. The LP carries six pieces, running from "Boldly Going" to the title track; the CD and digital editions of the album run to nine.
Tan Man's Hat was released by RareNoise on March 29, 2019, as the second album by Pavees Dance, the harmolodic jazz-rock group led by drummer and composer Sean Noonan, who bills himself a "Rhythmic Storyteller." For the title song, Noonan wrote new music to lyrics Malcolm Mooney had written during his time in Can.
Noonan plays drums and sings alongside Mooney, Can's original vocalist; Jamaaladeen Tacuma, of Ornette Coleman's Prime Time, plays bass, Ava Mendoza plays guitar and Alex Marcelo plays keyboards. Time Out New York has described Noonan's music as "clever, tuneful and celebratory - and more often than not, it just plain rocks," and Can biographer Pascal Bussy has called the band's work "a musical journey full of poetry and magic, designed for the most curious ears and eyes."
