Black Vinyl LP In A Gatefold Jacket With 12-Inch Booklet

This is the European vinyl edition of El Mal Querer, issued in Spain under catalog number 19075887971 and pressed by GZ Media in the Czech Republic. All eleven songs fit on one black LP, six on the first side and five on the second. The gatefold jacket holds a 12-by-12-inch booklet with the lyrics and photographs. Chris Athens mastered the album.

El Mal Querer is Rosalía's second studio album and her first of original material, released on November 2, 2018. She produced it with El Guincho (Pablo Díaz-Reixa), and most of it was recorded in his Barcelona apartment, with further sessions at Casa Arte on El Hierro in the Canary Islands and at Lo-Fi Studio. The record follows the anonymous 13th-century Occitan novel Flamenca: each song is a numbered chapter, from "Augurio" to "Poder." Jaycen Joshua mixed it at Larrabee Sound Studios in North Hollywood.

"Que No Salga La Luna" samples La Paquera de Jerez's "Mi Cante Por Bulerías," and "Maldición" samples Arthur Russell's "Answer Me." The orchestral parts of "Reniego" are played by the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra under David Hernando Rico.

"Malamente," "Pienso En Tu Mirá" and "Di Mi Nombre" were released before the album, and "Bagdad" and "De Aquí No Sales" followed it. "Malamente" won Best Alternative Song and Best Short Form Music Video at the 2018 Latin Grammy Awards. A year later the album won four Latin Grammys, Album of the Year among them, and it took Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative Album at the 62nd Grammy Awards. It reached No. 1 in Spain and on Billboard's Latin Pop Albums chart and holds a Metacritic score of 89. The Guardian's Alexis Petridis called it "the calling card of a unique new talent," and Rolling Stone placed it at No. 315 on its 2020 list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
