Limited Edition 45 RPM Black Vinyl 2LP In Gatefold Jacket

This is the limited edition vinyl release of My Latin Heart, cut at 45 RPM and spread across two black LPs, with two tracks on each side. Patois Records issued it in 2026, a year after the album first came out on CD on August 22, 2025. Michael Romanowski at Coast Mastering and Jeff Powell at Take Out Vinyl mastered it for vinyl, and the artist's own store describes it as a premium audiophile pressing. It comes in a 12-inch gatefold jacket with extended liner notes by Jesse "Chuy" Varela, music director at KCSM Radio, and NEA Jazz Master Todd Barkan. The cover painting is by Olivia Wise.

My Latin Heart is Roger Glenn's first album as a leader since Reachin', his Mizell Brothers-produced record for Fantasy. Glenn composed and arranged all eight pieces and plays vibraphone, flute, alto saxophone and marimba, and sings. He produced the album with guitarist Ray Obiedo, who also played on Reachin', and Obiedo recorded and mixed it at Werewolf Recording in Oakland, California. The band is David K. Mathews on piano, David Belove on bass, Paul Van Wageningen on drums and Derek Rolando on congas, with John Santos and Michael Spiro adding vocals and percussion. Mathews contributed additional arrangements on "Energizer," "Congo Square" and "Samba De Carnaval," and Obiedo on "Angola." After its release the album spent 26 weeks on the JazzWeek jazz chart.

The program draws on Glenn's own history. He is the son of trombonist and vibraphonist Tyree Glenn, who played with Duke Ellington and the Louis Armstrong All-Stars. He made his recording debut with Mary Lou Williams in 1969, then worked with Mongo Santamaria, Dizzy Gillespie, Donald Byrd and Cal Tjader, playing on Tjader's Grammy-winning La Onda Va Bien. "Cal's Guajira" is a cha-cha-cha written as a tribute to Tjader. Glenn's own notes on "Congo Square" describe the New Orleans square where enslaved Africans were permitted to gather on Sundays to drum and dance, and the distributor's release notes tie "Angola" to Louisiana's Angola Prison. On "Angola," Santos and Spiro play bata drums and sing in Yoruba.
