Jon Batiste won an Academy Award for co-composing the score to Pixar's Soul, alongside Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, and has earned eight Grammys, including Album of the Year for We Are. A New Orleans pianist trained at Juilliard, he led the band on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert from 2015 to 2022. Monk Meditations is the third volume of his Batiste Piano Series, following Beethoven Blues and Black Mozart. Here he turns to Thelonious Monk, drawing out the short, angular compositions into longer solo-piano readings. Released by Verve.
