Joey Bada$$ released 1999 as a free mixtape on June 12, 2012, when he was seventeen. It introduced the Brooklyn rapper and his Pro Era collective with a sound built on boom-bap production and dense lyricism, and it remains the record most associated with his early run. This is the 14-year anniversary reissue, pressed as a double LP in a gatefold jacket on black vinyl.

The tape draws on production from Chuck Strangers, Lord Finesse, MF DOOM, and J Dilla, and features guests from the Pro Era camp including Kirk Knight, CJ Fly, NYCK Caution, Dessy Hinds, and the late Capital STEEZ, who appears on "Survival Tactics."
