Reissued on 180-gram sky blue vinyl, Ju Ju Man finds Gary Bartz at a creative peak in 1976, fresh from stints in Miles Davis' band, Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and his own funk-fired NTU Troop. Recorded for the West Coast Catalyst label, the album pairs his alto, soprano and clarinet with a tightly drilled rhythm section across Coltrane tributes, a swinging Ellington ballad and a velvet reading of "My Funny Valentine" featuring Motown's Syreeta on vocals.

Long out of print and a collector's obscurity for decades, it stands as one of Bartz's finest sessions as a leader and one of the great understated spiritual-jazz records of its era.
