Island Records reissued White Chalk in June 2021 as a single 180-gram black LP that plays at 45 RPM. The reissue keeps the original recording and package: a full-color outer sleeve, a printed inner sleeve and a download card. The vinyl was cut by Jason Mitchell at Loud Mastering under the guidance of co-producer John Parish.
The album, Harvey's seventh, first came out in September 2007. She produced it with Flood and Parish and set aside the guitar, bass and drums of her earlier records to write on piano, an instrument she was still learning. Eric Drew Feldman plays keyboards and Jim White of Dirty Three plays drums.
Harvey sings much of the album in a higher register than her usual range. She has said she chose the title for the sound of the words, describing chalk as something that "can be millions of years old but erased in a second."
The singles were "When Under Ether," the video above, "The Piano" and "The Devil." The album holds a score of 80 on Metacritic.
