Limited Edition Orange Vinyl, Remastered

Orquesta Suprema was a twelve-piece salsa orchestra working the Miami dance circuit in the early to mid-1970s, playing to the city's growing Cuban community. Sonic Wax Records' notes describe a band that could draw thousands to a dance with little or no advertising, and call it the kings of Miami's "Open House" scene. La Suprema was recorded in 1973 and issued that year on Sound Triangle Records, the Miami Latin label owned and run by Manuel "Manny" Mato, who produced the original sessions, as catalog number ST-7774.

The band was led by Fausto "El Chino" Dorado, who also arranged the album and wrote two of its eight tracks, "El Viejo" and "Ya Yo Llegué." Bassist Walter "Oregano" Suarez wrote the opener, "Tiempos Del Pasodoble," and "La Suprema Se Coló," and rhythm guitarist Chiqui Perez wrote "Vive Tu Vida." Jose "Pepe" Cordo sings lead. The horn section is Gerardo Suarez and Rene "Camaron" Serrano on trumpet, Tony Dorado on trombone and Alfredo Fabregat on alto saxophone. Al "Pomponio" Hart plays piano, and Alfredo "Turulete" Blanco and Enrique Marrero sing coro.

This edition is newly remastered and pressed on orange vinyl, the first time the album has been issued on colored vinyl, according to the label. It carries catalog number ST-7774-1 under the Sound Triangle Records, Essential Media Group and Sonic Wax Records imprints. One LP, eight tracks, four to a side.
