Red Vinyl LP, 2015 Reissue

UMe and Geffen Records reissued Dead Man's Party on October 2, 2015 to mark the album's 30th anniversary. This is the nine-track album on a single red LP, catalog number B0023273-01. The Geffen center labels carry the Danny Elfman and Steve Bartek production credit, and an insert sheet prints the credits and lyrics. The same catalog number has since been repressed on red vinyl.

MCA released the album in 1985. It was Oingo Boingo's fifth album and the first with a new lineup, John Avila on bass and Mike Bacich on keyboards alongside Elfman, Bartek, drummer Johnny "Vatos" Hernandez and the horn section of Sam Phipps, Leon Schneiderman and Dale Turner. It was recorded at Sunset Sound Factory in Hollywood, reached No. 95 on the Billboard 200, and became the band's first gold record.

"Weird Science" began with a phone call from John Hughes, who wanted a song for his film of the same name. Elfman has said he worked it out in his car on the drive home and had the whole thing in his head by the time he reached his studio. It peaked at No. 45 on the Billboard Hot 100, the band's highest chart placing, and "Just Another Day" reached No. 85. The album runs the long mix of "Weird Science" as its closer.

Halloween runs through the title track's history. Oingo Boingo appeared in the 1986 film Back to School performing it, played annual Halloween shows at Irvine Meadows and the Universal Amphitheatre, and ended with a farewell concert on Halloween 1995. On Halloween 2015, the same month this pressing came out, Elfman and Bartek closed a Nightmare Before Christmas concert with "Dead Man's Party," the first time they had played it in twenty years. The cover is a Dia de los Muertos tableau of clay figures made by Celeste Williams and photographed by Jayme Odgers, with art direction by Odgers and Larry Vigon.
