Vinyl LP With Bonus 7-Inch Single

Yep Roc's 2017 reissue of Nick the Knife puts the original twelve songs on one LP and adds a 45 RPM single: a demo of "Heart" on one side, and a demo of "Raining Raining" with "I Got a Job," a rarity from the same period, on the other. The album was remastered from the original tapes, with David Glasser credited for the reissue mastering, and a digital download card is included.

First released in 1982, it was Lowe's third solo album and his first after Rockpile broke up the year before. Rockpile's Billy Bremner and Terry Williams still play on it, alongside Bobby Irwin, bassist James Eller and Paul Carrack, the start of the band Lowe would call Noise to Go. Lowe produced it himself.

Every song is a Lowe original or co-write, which makes it one of only two of his solo albums with no covers. His slower version of "Heart," sung by Bremner on Rockpile's Seconds of Pleasure, is here, and "My Heart Hurts," written with Carlene Carter, then his wife, was the lead single. "Burning," the opening track, is the audio above.

Nick the Knife reached No. 50 on the Billboard 200. The reissue arrived on July 14, 2017, as Yep Roc brought Lowe's solo albums through 1990 back into print.
