Indie Exclusive Opaque Natural Vinyl LP

This Indie Exclusive edition of Cocoon presses Morphine's eight-song album on a single LP in opaque natural vinyl for Partisan Records. The album's liner notes were written by Hanif Abdurraqib.

Cocoon comes from sessions in late 1998 and 1999, when Mark Sandman worked with producers Paul Q. Kolderie and Sean Slade at his home studio in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Kolderie and Slade had already produced three Morphine albums: Good, Cure For Pain and Yes. The new songs brought piano and acoustic guitar in alongside the trio's two-string slide bass, saxophone and drums, the sound the band called "low rock." Amid pressure from DreamWorks and friction with Kolderie, Sandman shelved the material and self-produced the songs that became The Night, released in 2000. Sandman died of a heart attack on stage during a concert in Italy in 1999.

The tapes sat untouched for more than two decades. In 2023 Sandman's life partner and Morphine estate manager Sabine Hrechdakian began working with Kolderie to digitize them. "I was astounded by the sound of the tracks when I put them up at the studio where we transferred them," Kolderie has said. He mixed the album, and saxophonist Dana Colley recorded new parts with him in early 2026. Hrechdakian has said the lyrics "speak to the hardship of being away from loved ones while the band was on tour and the joys of homecoming," with a thread of space travel running through the album. A version of the title track first appeared on the 2004 compilation Sandbox: The Music Of Mark Sandman.

The front cover is a photograph Sandman took of Hrechdakian's reflection in a train window on the way to Antwerp in 1998. The back pairs it with an image of Sandman photographing himself in a mirror at home.

Typical delivery within the United States ranges from 3–7 business days after shipment, depending on location and selected service. Delivery times for Canada vary by destination and carrier, and may be affected by customs processing.

While most deliveries arrive within the quoted window, occasional delays may occur due to weather, carrier volume, or other factors outside our control.

Shipping Rates

Shipping costs are calculated and displayed at checkout based on destination, package weight, and selected delivery speed.
