This is Peacefrog Records' 2026 reissue of Mahogany Brown, pressed as a double LP on smokey vinyl.
Mahogany Brown was Kenny Dixon Jr.'s second album as Moodymann, following Silentintroduction on Planet E in 1997, and his first for Peacefrog, the London independent founded in 1991 by Pete Hutchison and Paul Ballard. Peacefrog first issued it in 1998 as a double LP, catalog number PF074, with lacquers cut at The Exchange and pressing by Orlake. Dixon, born in Los Angeles and raised in Detroit, had launched his own KDJ Records in 1994.
Lord Imran Ahmed is featured on "Me And My Peoples Eyes," and Taj on "Joy Part III." The label's notes describe an album that draws on soul, funk, gospel and hip-hop production, moving between mellow disco dubs such as the title track and "Stoneodenjoe" and rawer tech-house such as "Me And My Peoples Eyes." Writing for Pitchfork, Philip Sherburne has traced Dixon's sample-heavy productions to Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and Chic.
Peacefrog has kept the record in print through a run of represses, among them a 300-copy brown marbled edition in 2011 and a clear vinyl edition in 2020.
Evergreen Vinyl ships records with care and attention to detail, using established carriers and packaging practices designed to protect physical media in transit.
