Green Watermelon Skin Vinyl LP With Liner Notes Insert

Real Gone Music and Second Disc Records reissued the Watermelon Man soundtrack in 2022 on green "watermelon skin" vinyl, catalog number RGM-1418. The labels describe it as the album's first vinyl reissue in more than 50 years. Mike Milchner remastered it at SonicVision, and the insert carries new liner notes by Joe Marchese of The Second Disc along with photographs from the film's production.

Watermelon Man (1970) was the only studio film directed by Melvin Van Peebles, whom Real Gone Music's notes call the "godfather of black cinema." Godfrey Cambridge stars as Jeff Gerber, a bigoted insurance salesman who wakes up one morning to find he has become Black, with Estelle Parsons as his wife, Althea. Van Peebles wrote the score himself while recording as a solo artist for A&M, and the soundtrack was first issued in 1970 on the small Beverly Hills label as BHS-26.

The label's notes describe the score as moving between jazz, funk, rock, rhythm and blues, proto-rap and bluegrass. Van Peebles sings "Love, That's America" and "Soul'd On You," and Estelle Parsons sings "Where Are The Children." The same notes report that Ry Cooder, uncredited on the original release, played the slide guitar parts throughout.

Shipping Speeds & Delivery Estimates

Delivery timelines are estimates, not guarantees.

Estimated delivery windows are quoted at checkout based on the shipping speed you select and your delivery address. Transit time begins after your order has been processed.

Typical delivery within the United States ranges from 3–7 business days after shipment, depending on location and selected service. Delivery times for Canada vary by destination and carrier, and may be affected by customs processing.

While most deliveries arrive within the quoted window, occasional delays may occur due to weather, carrier volume, or other factors outside our control.

Shipping Rates

Shipping costs are calculated and displayed at checkout based on destination, package weight, and selected delivery speed.

Signature Requirements

Orders totaling over $250 may require a signature upon delivery to help ensure safe receipt. This is applied based on order value and carrier guidelines.

Chargebacks & Payment Disputes

We strongly encourage customers to contact us directly with any concerns before filing a credit card dispute or chargeback.

Once a dispute or chargeback has been initiated, we are unable to proceed with refunds, replacements, or reshipments until the case is fully resolved. Resolution timelines are controlled by the payment processor and can take up to 120 days.
