Coke Clear with Yellow Swirl Vinyl, 35th Anniversary Edition
Real Gone Music marked the album's 35th anniversary with this pressing on Coke-bottle clear vinyl with a yellow swirl, catalog number RGM-1576, and a printed inner sleeve carrying the lyrics. The label notes that the record had not been widely available on vinyl since its first release.
Forbidden Places was the Meat Puppets' seventh studio album and their first for a major label after years on SST. London Records released it in July 1991. Pete Anderson produced it, and Curt Kirkwood wrote all eleven songs, playing guitar and singing alongside his brother Cris on bass and Derrick Bostrom on drums. Skip Edwards added organ and piano, and Alex Acuña played percussion on three songs.
"Sam," the opener and the video shown above, was the first single, followed by "Whirlpool." The album moves through blues on "Nail It Down" and country on "That's How It Goes" before closing on the instrumental "Six Gallon Pie." Too High to Die came next, in 1994.
