The Roaring Silence was released in August 1976, the seventh Manfred Mann's Earth Band album and the first with vocalist Chris Thompson and guitarist Dave Flett. It reached No. 10 on both the UK Albums Chart and the Billboard 200, and is certified Gold by the RIAA.

Its reading of Bruce Springsteen's "Blinded by the Light" reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in February 1977, the band's only US chart-topper and, as its writer, Springsteen's. "Spirits in the Night," re-recorded with Thompson for the 1977 US reissue, closes this edition.

This limited pressing from Creature Music is liquid filled vinyl: the record is pressed one side at a time in clear vinyl, the two halves are joined by hand, and the cavity between them is filled with caramel-colored liquid. It ships in a widened 5mm sleeve. Sound quality is that of a standard clear pressing.
