This is the standard black vinyl edition of the 2018 Capitol and UMe reissue of Whip-Smart, released June 8, 2018. It comes in a gatefold sleeve with a printed insert. The sleeve credits mastering to Roger Seibel at SAE Mastering in Phoenix, and the lacquers for this pressing were cut by Ian Sefchick at Capitol Mastering.
Matador and Atlantic first released Whip-Smart in September 1994 as Liz Phair's second album, the follow-up to Exile In Guyville. Phair produced it with Brad Wood, who recorded and mixed it with Casey Rice; the sessions took place at Idful in Chicago in August 1993 and at Compass Point Studios in Nassau, Bahamas, in February 1994. Wood also plays drums and bass, Rice plays guitar, and Leroy Bach plays bass on "Supernova" and "X-Ray Man."
The album debuted at No. 27 on the Billboard 200 and was later certified Gold by the RIAA. "Supernova," shown above, reached No. 6 on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance. The title track interpolates Malcolm McLaren's "Double Dutch," with McLaren credited on its chorus. Phair designed the cover with Matador's Mark Ohe, around a Soviet propaganda poster.
Evergreen Vinyl ships records with care and attention to detail, using established carriers and packaging practices designed to protect physical media in transit.
