50th Anniversary Picture Disc LP

Kraftwerk's Autobahn pressed as a picture disc, issued by Parlophone on March 7, 2025 for the album's 50th anniversary. It is the first official picture disc in the band's discography. The audio is the stereo album from the 2009 Kling Klang Digital Master, the remaster first issued as part of The Catalogue. The new Dolby Atmos mix that Ralf Hütter made with engineer Fritz Hilpert from the original 16-track tapes went to a separate Blu-ray edition.

Both of the album's covers are printed on the disc. One face carries the blue-and-white motorway sign that Phonogram used for the UK release, which later became the default sleeve on reissues. The other carries Emil Schult's painted motorway scene from the original German issue. The disc sits in a plastic inner sleeve inside a printed die-cut jacket. The extended credits are printed on the inside cover, where they show through the cut-out. The spine reads "Autobahn • Kling Klang Digital Master", the runouts are etched, and the shrink-wrap carries a "50th anniversary picture disc" sticker.

Side A holds the title track in full, all 22 minutes of it. Hütter has said the idea came from driving on the autobahn. In 1975 a single edit of the track became an international hit, and the album reached No. 5 on Billboard's Top LPs & Tapes chart. Side B holds the four shorter electro-acoustic pieces. The two-part "Kometenmelodie" was inspired by Comet Kohoutek. Klaus Röder plays electric violin on "Mitternacht". Hütter traced "Morgenspaziergang" to the band's early-morning walks out of the studio after late-night sessions. Philips first issued Autobahn in West Germany in November 1974; it was recorded at Kling Klang and at Conny Plank's studio outside Cologne.
