2018 Remaster on 180-Gram Black Vinyl

This single LP is the Fish People vinyl edition of The Sensual World from the November 2018 remastering of Kate Bush's catalogue. Her official site announced that program as the first and definitive remastering of her albums, carried out by Bush with James Guthrie, and the printed inner sleeve credits the remastering work to James Guthrie, Joel Plante and Bernie Grundman. The album was issued on its own and, on the same day, as one of three albums in the Remastered In Vinyl II box alongside Hounds of Love and The Red Shoes.

The disc is 180-gram black vinyl with Fish People labels, housed in a jacket with a printed card inner sleeve that carries the lyrics and full credits. The rear sleeve bears a 2018 copyright line for Noble & Brite Ltd. Side one holds five songs and side two the remaining five, closing on "This Woman's Work" exactly as the 1989 LP did. "Walk Straight Down the Middle," a bonus track on the original CD and cassette, is not part of this vinyl running order.

The Sensual World was Bush's sixth studio album, first released by EMI in October 1989 and produced by Bush herself. It peaked at No. 2 on the UK Albums Chart, was certified Platinum by the BPI and Gold by the RIAA, and was nominated for Best Alternative Music Album at the 33rd Grammy Awards. The title track draws on Molly Bloom's soliloquy from James Joyce's Ulysses; when the Joyce estate declined permission, Bush wrote her own lyric in its place, and she recorded the original text years later as "Flower of the Mountain" on Director's Cut (2011). "This Woman's Work," first heard in the 1988 film She's Having a Baby, was re-recorded and re-edited for the album.

The players include the Bulgarian vocal ensemble Trio Bulgarka on "Deeper Understanding," "Never Be Mine" and "Rocket's Tail," Mick Karn on fretless bass for "Heads We're Dancing," David Gilmour on guitar for "Love and Anger" and "Rocket's Tail," Nigel Kennedy on violin and viola, and Davy Spillane on uilleann pipes. Michael Kamen wrote the orchestral arrangements. It was the last studio album to feature Bush's longtime guitarist Alan Murphy, who died three days after its release.
