Hi-Melt Silver Vinyl, 50th Anniversary Edition

This is the silver edition of Light In The Attic's 50th anniversary reissue of In My Own Time, catalog number LITA 200, pressed on hi-melt silver vinyl at Record Technology Inc. (RTI). The single LP carries the original ten-song album, five songs a side, newly remastered by Dave Cooley at Elysian Masters, where Phil Rodriguez cut the lacquers.

The expanded gatefold jacket holds a 20-page, 12-inch booklet bound into one half, with rarely seen photographs, Lenny Kaye's essay "In Her Own Time," and contributions from Nick Cave and Devendra Banhart. An obi strip carries a second barcode, 826853200226, which some retailers list for this same silver pressing. Uncut gave the anniversary reissue a 9 out of 10.

In My Own Time was Dalton's second and final studio album, first issued in 1971 on Just Sunshine, the label started by Woodstock co-promoter Michael Lang, through Paramount (PAS 6008). Sessions ran over about six months at Bearsville Studios in Woodstock, with further work at Mercy Sound in New York. Harvey Brooks produced: the bassist on Bob Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited and Miles Davis's Bitches Brew, he had also played on her 1969 debut, It's So Hard to Tell Who's Going to Love You the Best.

Dalton rarely recorded her own songs, and the album is built from interpretations: the traditional "Katie Cruel" and "Same Old Man," Dino Valenti's "Something on Your Mind," Paul Butterfield's "In My Own Dream," George Jones's "Take Me," Holland-Dozier-Holland's "How Sweet It Is," Joe Tate's "One Night of Love," and "Are You Leaving for the Country" by Richard Tucker, whom she married. It was the last record she released in her lifetime; she died in 1993. In his memoir Chronicles: Volume One, Bob Dylan named her his favorite singer in the Greenwich Village clubs of the early 1960s.
