50th Anniversary Limited Edition Gold Vinyl LP

Legacy marks fifty years of Leftoverture with a limited edition single LP pressed on 140-gram gold vinyl.

Leftoverture was Kansas' fourth album, released on Kirshner Records on October 21, 1976. It was recorded between December 1975 and August 1976 at Studio in the Country in Bogalusa, Louisiana, and produced by Jeff Glixman with the band. The title joins "leftover" and "overture." With Steve Walsh facing writer's block, Kerry Livgren wrote most of the record, including "Carry On Wayward Son," which he conceived as a sequel to "The Pinnacle" from Masque.

The lineup was Walsh on keyboards and lead vocals, Livgren on guitar and keyboards, Robby Steinhardt on violin and viola, singing lead on "Miracles Out of Nowhere" and "Cheyenne Anthem," Rich Williams on guitar, Dave Hope on bass and Phil Ehart on drums. George Marino mastered the original at Sterling Sound.

"Carry On Wayward Son" was issued as a single in November 1976, followed by "What's on My Mind" in May 1977. The album reached No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and No. 2 in Canada, became the band's first RIAA-certified album, and is certified four times platinum in the US. Rolling Stone called it the band's best album to that point; Robert Christgau gave it a D+.
