Whiskey-Colored Translucent Brown Vinyl LP

This is the whiskey edition of Middle of Nowhere: a single LP pressed on translucent brown vinyl, sold by Kacey Musgraves' official store as Whiskey-Colored Vinyl. It carries the standard cover, and the thirteen songs run seven to side A and six to side B. On the official store it sat beside a Sand-colored pressing and two store exclusives, a clear-vinyl edition with an alternate cover and a picture disc.

Lost Highway issued the album on May 1, 2026. Musgraves had been the label's final signing in 2011, a year before it was folded into Mercury Nashville, and in April 2025 she became the first artist signed to its relaunch. The album's copyright line credits the recordings to Musgraves herself, under exclusive license to Lost Highway.

She co-wrote every song, reuniting with Luke Laird, Shane McAnally, Josh Osborne and Brandy Clark, who contributed to her first major-label albums, and co-produced with Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk, her collaborators since Golden Hour (2018). Pedal steel, accordion and Texas dancehall rhythms run through the record, with Western swing, bluegrass, nortño and Tejano elements drawn from time she spent between Texas, Tennessee and Mexico. The title came from a sign in her hometown of Golden, Texas. Her sister Kelly Sutton photographed the cover in Deep Ellum, Dallas, with a spotted steer brought in from a friend's ranch.

Willie Nelson, Miranda Lambert, Billy Strings and Gregory Alan Isakov appear as guests. "Uncertain, TX" is her third recording with Nelson, after "Are You Sure" and "A Willie Nice Christmas." "Horses and Divorces" grew out of a session in which she and Lambert addressed old tensions over "Mama's Broken Heart," a song Musgraves co-wrote that Lambert recorded in 2013.

The lead single "Dry Spell" reached No. 55 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 15 on Hot Country Songs, and "Mexico Honey" later reached No. 39 on the Hot 100. The album made the top ten in the United States, the United Kingdom and Scotland.
