Gold 180-Gram Vinyl at 45 RPM, RSD Black Friday 2023

Yuma was where Justin Townes Earle started: a six-song EP he released himself in 2007 so he would have something to sell on the road. Bloodshot Records reissued it for Record Store Day's Black Friday event on November 24, 2023, as a single 12-inch disc of gold 180-gram vinyl cut at 45 RPM, three songs to a side.

Ray Kennedy, whose credits include records by Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams and Waylon Jennings, remastered the songs from the original high-resolution sources. Jeff Powell cut the lacquers, and his name appears in the runout of both sides next to the catalog number BS153.

Joshua Black Wilkins, Earle's friend, collaborator and art director, took the sepia cover portraits and wrote new liner notes for this edition. The jacket also holds a frameable print of a previously unpublished photo from those cover sessions, along with the complete lyrics.

The recordings are spare: Earle with a guitar, plus some mandolin and harmonica, as Bloodshot has described them. The label first reissued Yuma on CD in 2008, the year it released his first full-length album, The Good Life, and pressed the EP on 10-inch vinyl in 2013. This 12-inch cut is a separate edition from both.

Earle was the son of Steve Earle and was named for his father's mentor, Townes Van Zandt. He went on to make eight full-length albums, and won Americana Music Awards for New and Emerging Artist of the Year in 2009 and for Song of the Year in 2011 with "Harlem River Blues." He died in Nashville in August 2020, at 38.
