180 Gram Vinyl LP

This is the Columbia and Legacy reissue of Grace as a single LP, catalog number 88697779831, pressed on 180-gram heavyweight vinyl. It comes in the original artwork with a printed insert. The ten tracks of the 1994 album keep their original running order, five to a side, with "Hallelujah" opening Side B.

Grace is the only studio album Jeff Buckley completed. Columbia first released it in August 1994. Buckley produced it with Andy Wallace, recording mostly at Bearsville Studios in Woodstock, New York, with Gary Lucas, Mick Grondahl, Michael Tighe and Matt Johnson. Karl Berger wrote the string arrangements with Buckley and conducted the sessions. Alongside seven originals are three covers: the jazz standard "Lilac Wine", the hymn "Corpus Christi Carol" by way of Benjamin Britten's arrangement, and Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", which Buckley edited together from more than twenty takes. "So Real" came late, built from a chord progression Tighe played at rehearsal, and it took the place of "Forget Her" on the finished record.

Merri Cyr took the cover photograph while Buckley was listening to a playback of "Dream Brother." The jacket he wears is a sequinned women's jacket from a thrift store. Columbia's executives pushed for alternatives, and Buckley refused them.

Grace peaked at number 149 on the Billboard 200 and reached number 9 in Australia. Its reputation grew after 1997. By 2011 it had sold two million copies worldwide, and it was certified platinum in the US in 2016. Rolling Stone placed it at number 147 on its 2020 list of the 500 greatest albums. Buckley's "Hallelujah" was later added to the Library of Congress's National Recording Registry.
