Indie Exclusive Lightning White 180g 2LP Gatefold

This is the indie-retail edition of Trying Times: a limited pressing on two 180-gram discs of lightning white EcoSonic vinyl, in a gatefold jacket with printed inner sleeves. EcoSonic is the compound James Blake's official store describes as 100% recyclable and PVC-free. Thirteen tracks run 47 minutes 39 seconds over four sides.

Independent shops carried this album's opening week in the UK. It debuted at number three on the UK Albums Chart, the highest UK debut of Blake's career, and went to number one on both the UK Record Store Chart and the UK Vinyl Albums Chart. Independent retailers sold 9,000 first-week copies there, about nine-tenths of its UK total. It also reached number one in Scotland and number three in Flanders.

Trying Times is Blake's seventh studio album and his first full-length release as an independent artist, issued on March 13, 2026 through Good Boy Records, with distribution by Virgin Music Group. It follows his April 2024 exit from Polydor after roughly twelve years with the label. Jameela Jamil, his partner, served as producer and executive producer. Dave appears on "Doesn't Just Happen" and Monica Martin on "Didn't Come to Argue." Blake has called the record "like if The Colour in Anything was more concise," and guitars appear on more tracks than is usual for his albums.

"Through the High Wire" began in 2022 as a recording with Kanye West for their abandoned collaborative album War; none of West's contributions remain on the final version. Lead single "Death of Love" samples "You Want It Darker" and was issued with a live performance video featuring the London Welsh Men's Choir. Metacritic lists a weighted score of 77 out of 100 from twelve critics. The cover shows Blake among spinning plates.
