Brain Cream came out on Burger Records on June 30, 2015, as a single LP under catalog number BRGR850, alongside a CD and a cassette. It brought Jaill back to Burger, the label that had reissued the band's earlier There's No Sky (Oh My My), after two albums for Sub Pop.
Louie Lino recorded the album at Resonate Music in Austin, Texas, and Jeff Lipton mastered it at Peerless Mastering. Vincent Kircher sings, plays guitar and wrote the songs; by this record he was the only original member, joined by Johnathon Mayer on bass, Josh Evert on drums and Michael Skorcz on synthesizer. Helen G. Poser made the cover artwork, and Evert and Sean Bohrman designed the sleeve.
Jaill formed in Milwaukee in 2002. Sub Pop signed the band in 2009 after hearing There's No Sky, and That's How We Burn followed in 2010 and Traps in 2012. The band added a second L to its name because a European band had used the same name nearly 40 years earlier. Ahead of Brain Cream, "Got an F" was released as the first single in May 2015, and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel premiered both it and "Getaway."
