Record Store Day's RSD Essentials series numbers this pressing 089: In Cold Blood on a single red LP from VP Records and 17 North Parade, catalog number VPRL4274, with a May 8, 2026 street date. The release notes describe it as newly remastered, with liner notes and rare images, and the record comes in a printed inner sleeve.
In Cold Blood first came out in 1978. Bunny Lee produced and arranged it, King Tubby mixed it, and the Aggrovators supplied the rhythms behind Jackie Mittoo's keyboards. The players include Sly Dunbar on drums, Robbie Shakespeare on bass, Earl "Chinna" Smith on lead guitar, Tommy McCook on tenor saxophone and Bobby Ellis on trumpet, with Winston Wright on organ beside Mittoo and Keith Sterling on piano. Mittoo also plays a string machine.
The label's notes credit Mittoo, as musician and arranger, with countless bass lines, melodies and arrangements that drove reggae for decades, and single out "Sky King Jack" and "Earthquake" from this set. Most of the writing is Mittoo's; "Rockers Delete" is credited to E. Lee and the title track to C. Dodd.
