Coke Bottle Clear Vinyl LP, Fifth Anniversary Reissue With Two Bonus Tracks

This limited reissue presses By The Time I Get To Phoenix on a single coke bottle clear LP, issued in 2026 for the album's fifth anniversary. Alongside the eleven songs of the original release it carries two bonus tracks, "Tally Em Up" and "Altitude," which close the record.

The album first appeared on September 15, 2021, as Injury Reserve's second and final studio album. It came out independently, after Loma Vista declined to release it commercially and let the group out of its contract. Recording ran through 2019 and 2020, and the record was largely finished when rapper Stepa J. Groggs died in mid-2020. Ritchie With a T and producer Parker Corey completed it after a two-month pause, and the album is dedicated to Groggs. The title was his suggestion, a reference to Isaac Hayes's recording of "By The Time I Get To Phoenix."

Parker Corey produced every track and designed the cover, built from a frame of a National Geographic documentary showing a man caught in a dust storm. Zeroh mixed and mastered the album. ZelooperZ appears on "SS San Francisco," Morgan Simpson plays drums on "Outside," and Jam City and Sadpony co-produced "Top Picks For You." "Superman That" grew out of an improvised DJ set on the group's European tour that reworked Black Country, New Road's "Athens, France." "Knees" was released as a single on August 11, 2021, followed by "Superman That" on September 1.

The album holds a Metacritic score of 82. In The New Yorker, Sheldon Pearce described it as a "post-rap epic, exploding with poignant music that is hectic, congested, and glitchy." It placed on 2021 year-end lists from BrooklynVegan (No. 14), Spin (No. 19) and NPR Music (No. 20).
