Nettwerk returned Keep It Together to vinyl in 2019, and this red pressing of that LP was issued in time for the album's 20th anniversary. The single record holds the twelve songs of the original album, six to a side, ending on "I Hope Tomorrow Is Like Today."
Keep It Together is Guster's fourth studio album, first released in 2003 on Palm and Reprise. It was recorded between 2001 and 2003 in Bearsville, New York City, Burbank and Shokan, with Roger Moutenot and Ron Aniello producing. It was also the first Guster record with Brian Rosenworcel playing a drum kit instead of hand percussion.
Joe Pisapia, who had been touring with the band, sings on "Jesus on the Radio" and became a full member in 2003. Ben Kweller sings on "I Hope Tomorrow Is Like Today." "Backyard" carries a house rule from the sessions: every guest musician recorded one take on it, without having heard the song beforehand.
"Amsterdam," the video above, and "Careful" both reached the Adult Top 40, and the album peaked at No. 35 on the Billboard 200. Working titles along the way included Olympia Dukakis and Come Downstairs & Say Hello.
