Solid Gold Vinyl in a Gatefold Jacket

This edition of Sunraven puts the album on a single LP pressed in solid gold vinyl, housed in a gatefold jacket. Nuclear Blast released it on October 18, 2024 under catalog number NB 7206-1.

Sunraven is the tenth studio album from the Stockholm trio and their first concept record. Its nine songs are built on the Old English epic poem Beowulf, with titles such as "Grendel," named for the monster the hero fights, and "To Heorot," the king's hall where that fight takes place.

Singer and guitarist Janne "JB" Christoffersson has said the opening track, "Skybound," is about death and the road to Valhalla. He tied it to the end of the poem, where an aged Beowulf kills a dragon and is mortally wounded, and described the myth as a starting point for his own ideas rather than a retelling.

The band produced the record with Staffan Karlsson, who also engineered, mixed and mastered it, and the sessions took place at The Sweetspot Studio in Sweden. JB has said they took a year to make it. The lineup is JB on vocals and guitar, Mats "Fox" Skinner on bass and backing vocals, and Ludwig Witt on drums, with cover art by Anthony Roberts.

Grand Magus have been on Nuclear Blast since The Hunt in 2012, and Sunraven followed Wolf God, released in 2019. It reached number 31 on the Austrian album chart, 32 in Germany and 50 in Switzerland.
