Black Vinyl 2LP, Gatefold

Listenable Records presses From Mars to Sirius as a double LP on black vinyl in a gatefold jacket, catalog number POSH137. The twelve songs are spread over four sides, and Side D carries the four that close the album's story, from "World to Come" through "Global Warming."

Released on September 27, 2005, it was Gojira's third studio album. The band recorded it in 2004 and 2005 at Studio des Milans, the studio they built in their hometown of Ondres, with the drums tracked at Le Florida in Agen. They produced it themselves. Laurent Etchemendy engineered and mixed it with Joe Duplantier and Jean-Michel Labadie, and the lineup was Joe on vocals and guitar, his brother Mario on drums, Christian Andreu on guitar and Labadie on bass. Joe wrote every lyric and also made the cover art.

It is a concept album about bringing a dead planet back to life through a journey across space. Joe Duplantier has said Mars stands for war and Sirius for peace, and the record follows the passage from one to the other, with climate change and the fate of marine life running through it. "Flying Whales" is a tribute to whales and their intelligence. "To Sirius" got a video directed by Alain Duplantier, the clip above, from the band's own channel.

The album reached No. 44 in France. Rolling Stone placed it at No. 97 on its list of the 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time and put "Flying Whales" at No. 70 among the 100 Greatest Heavy Metal Songs, and Decibel inducted it into its Hall of Fame in 2018. For the 20th anniversary in 2025, the band recorded "Ocean Planet," "From the Sky" and "Where Dragons Dwell" live at Joe Duplantier's Silver Cord Studio in Queens, New York.
