20th Anniversary Edition Orange & Yellow 180g 2LP With Etched Side D, Record Store Day 2020

Gene's only live album was first released on CD, in 2000. It came out on vinyl for the first time with this Record Store Day 2020 edition from Demon Records (catalog number DEMREC664), which marked twenty years since the recording. It has two 180g discs. The orange LP plays sides A and B. The yellow LP is single-sided: it plays side C, and the Gene logo is etched into side D. The sticker on the front of the jacket lists the edition, the colors and the etched side, and printed inner sleeves carry photographs from the period. This is the release's first-issue edition. Its street date was the first Record Store Day drop of 2020, 29 August.

The album was recorded over two nights, 1 and 2 June 2000, at The Troubadour in Hollywood. Those shows closed the band's US tour for Revelations, their third album. The concert was also streamed live as an internet broadcast that drew an audience of at least 60,000, and the album came out about two months later. Martin Rossiter fronts the band. Two new songs make their first appearance here: "Rising For Sunset," which gives the album its title, and "Somewhere In The World."

The set draws heavily on Gene's 1990s catalog. "London, Can You Wait?" and "Olympian" both come from the band's 1995 debut album Olympian, which reached No. 8 on the UK albums chart. Demon's 2020 vinyl box The Albums did not include Rising For Sunset. A black-vinyl pressing with music on all four sides followed in 2021.
