2LP Set on Black Vinyl

Capitol and UMe issued The Giants of Jazz on September 26, 2025, as part of The Frank Sinatra Collection. It pairs two of Sinatra's Reprise albums on two black LPs, the first with Count Basie and his band and the second with Duke Ellington's orchestra, and it comes with rare photos and recreations of the original artwork. The front cover credits all three names.

It Might as Well Be Swing fills the first record. Sinatra cut it in Hollywood from June 9 to 12, 1964, and Reprise released it that August. Quincy Jones arranged and conducted, his first time as Sinatra's arranger in the studio, and Sonny Burke produced. The album reached No. 13 on Billboard's album chart and No. 17 in the UK. Its opener, Bart Howard's "Fly Me to the Moon," became one of Sinatra's best-known recordings.

Francis A. & Edward K. fills the second. It was recorded at Western Recorders in Hollywood on December 11 and 12, 1967, and released in 1968, with Billy May arranging and conducting the Ellington band. Johnny Hodges, Paul Gonsalves and Cootie Williams are among the players. Ellington's "I Like the Sunrise" is the only original song on it, and every track but "Come Back to Me" is taken at a slow tempo. DownBeat's Dan Morgenstern singled out "Indian Summer," with Hodges' solo, as its high point.

The video above, from Sinatra's official channel, is a 1965 live performance of "Fly Me to the Moon" at the Kiel Opera House in St. Louis.
