Indie Exclusive Red Vinyl 2LP With Screen-Printed Side D

This is the indie-retail exclusive pressing of Honora: two red vinyl LPs in a gatefold jacket, with the album's ten tracks spread across three sides. The fourth side has no grooves and carries a screen-printed design instead, hand-lettered in light blue ink with lines from "A Plea." The standard black edition puts an etching on that side.

Honora is Flea's first full-length solo album, issued by Nonesuch on March 27, 2026, and produced by saxophonist Josh Johnson. It takes its name from his great-great-grandmother, and her hardship in Ireland and emigration to Australia inspired the record. The cover photograph shows his mother-in-law, Shahin Badiyan, in Iran in the 1960s.

Nonesuch's announcement traces the album back to his first musical loves, jazz and the trumpet. At sixteen his friend Hillel Slovak asked him to take up bass and join his rock band, the road that led to Red Hot Chili Peppers. Nearing his sixtieth birthday, Flea resolved to practice trumpet every day for two years, through a stadium tour, and then make an album wherever his playing had arrived.

The sessions were recorded in February 2025 at Sunset Sound in Hollywood, with additional recording at Soundtree in London. Flea composed and arranged the music and plays trumpet and bass, adding spoken-word vocals. Around him are Johnson on saxophone and keyboards, guitarist Jeff Parker, bassist Anna Butterss and drummer Deantoni Parks, with Mauro Refosco and Nathaniel Walcott among the additional players. Thom Yorke contributes vocals, piano and synth to "Traffic Lights," which he co-wrote with Flea and Johnson, and Nick Cave sings "Wichita Lineman." John Frusciante mixed "Willow Weep for Me," and Eric Boulanger mastered the album.

Six of the ten pieces are Flea originals. The others are interpretations: Eddie Hazel and George Clinton's "Maggot Brain," Jimmy Webb's "Wichita Lineman," Frank Ocean and Shea Taylor's "Thinkin Bout You," heard here as an instrumental, and Ann Ronell's "Willow Weep for Me." "A Plea" arrived first, on December 2, 2025, with a video directed by Flea's daughter Clara Balzary and choreographed by Sadie Wilking. Metacritic lists Honora as receiving "generally favorable reviews," a weighted score of 75 from 14 critics.
