180 Gram Vinyl LP, Remastered From The Original Master Tapes

UMe's 2015 reissue presents Elvis Costello's debut album on a single 180-gram LP, remastered from the original master tapes and pressed in the Czech Republic. It follows the American running order of thirteen tracks, with "Watching the Detectives" closing side one.

My Aim Is True first appeared in the UK on Stiff Records on 22 July 1977. Nick Lowe produced it at Pathway Studios, an eight-track room in Islington, over six four-hour sessions from late 1976 into early 1977, at a cost of about 2,000 pounds. Most tracks were recorded live, in first takes, with little overdubbing. The players were members of Clover, a California country rock band then based in Britain: John McFee on guitar, John Ciambotti on bass, Sean Hopper on keyboards and Mickey Shine on drums. None of them were credited on the original release because of contractual difficulties. Stan Shaw of the Hitmen added keyboards to "Less Than Zero."

"Watching the Detectives" came from a separate session in May 1977. Steve Goulding and Andrew Bodnar of Graham Parker's band the Rumour played drums and bass, and a 19-year-old Steve Nason, later known as Steve Nieve, added the keyboard overdubs. Released as a single that October, it reached number 15 in the UK and was Costello's first hit. The song was not on the original UK album. Columbia added it to the American edition, and that is the sequence this LP keeps.

The album reached number 14 in the UK. In the US it climbed to number 32, by which point it was the biggest-selling import album in American history.
