25th Anniversary Remastered CD

Geffen Records issued this single-disc edition of Hell Freezes Over on March 8, 2019, as a standalone release of Bob Ludwig's remaster for the album's 25th anniversary. Ludwig's work had first reached CD inside Eagles' 2018 career-spanning box set from Rhino. This US issue carries catalog number B0029502-02 and arrived the same day as a 180-gram double-vinyl edition.

The running order is the 1994 one: four new studio recordings, then eleven songs the reunited band performed for an MTV special at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank on April 25 and 26, 1994. The lineup was the Long Run-era five of Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Don Felder, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit, and the title answers Henley's old reply to the question of when the band would play together again. Frey opened the concert by telling the audience the Eagles had never broken up, only taken a 14-year vacation. The band produced with Elliot Scheiner and Rob Jacobs, and Stan Lynch co-produced "Learn to Be Still."

The live set reworks "Hotel California" with an extended acoustic guitar and percussion introduction, and the Burbank Philharmonic Orchestra backs several of the live tracks, "Desperado" among them. Of the studio songs, the Henley and Frey composition "Get Over It" became a Top 40 single, and "Love Will Keep Us Alive," sung by Schmit, went to No. 1 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart. Those four studio recordings are the last to feature Felder, who was fired from the band in 2001.

First issued in 1994, Hell Freezes Over spent two weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard album chart and has been certified nine times platinum in the US.
